The "Panthers" have now been running since March 2009. As 2009 went on, it became more popular, and we have a variety of riders, guys, gals and couples. Wee bikes, fast bikes and tourers - we have them all...
We go out on regular monthly runs during the summer, and have a real friendly bunch of folk. We dont charge for membership, there isn't a committee, and there are no politics. We all just chip in our ideas, and go with the flow. No doubt as we get bigger, we will need some organised structure, but we will always strive for democracy.
The long term plan is to have something 'Scotland-Wide', with a view to having Regional Meet's, Organised Get-together's several times a year, a bit of rallying, and generally having a good time. The plan is to get a basic infrastructure all into place over the course of the Winter in readiness to be properly up and running for the new season next spring.
This has 'come about' because the 'need' was identified, arising from a few people's dis-satisfaction and disillusionment with clubs in their locality, or 'owners groups' which tend to have their focus based more in the south of the UK.
The idea is to have no barriers as to what someone rides, how they ride it, or what their politics, religious persuasion or anything else may be. The only requirement being that they own ( or have access to ) a bike, and use it.
Further to that - the plan is to have no 'fees' or financial outlay just to be part of somthing, other than the cost of the patch itself.
We've got strong committment from guys in the Highlands and Ayrshire - but are looking to widen this further by having a few more who can put the time into further enhancing the effort in Aberdeenshire, Edinburgh & the Lothians, Strathclyde, Tayside, Borders, D&G. ( Feel free to volunteer !! )
If you would like to be kept informed, we would be glad to add your details into the list now - so that you'll be kept up to speed as the developments unfold.
As you'll understand - we want to make sure we do this 'properly' to ensure its long-term success and for people to get the best from it, as it grows.
